I’m proud, excited and delighted to
celebrate the first innovative 3D animation produced by creative minded
Nigerians. #Ash7 which has been the principal animation company responsible for
constructing The House of Ajebo
animation comedy skit, held a Press Conference on the 17th January,
2015 at Burger Lounge in Maitama
Amusement Park, Abuja. It relayed sensitive information about its current
project “Dave & Golly” to the
public through noble members of the press from the likes of NTA, STV, Rhythm
Fm, The Garki Gazette, Thisday Newspapers, Vanguard, Newton Paul’s Blog e.t.c.
#Ash7 team members who were present at the
press conference were; Mami Tiffany Tela (Secretary), Daniel Okosun (Public
relations/Admin), Victor Enoch (Director/Animator), Emeka Ibe
Emerald (Assistant Director).

The Dave
& Golly project is designed to entertain, inspire and motivate the
public; it is enveloped with constructive creative aesthetics that will attract
audience from different age background and demography. The original inspiration
of the idea was drawn from the historical event David and Goliath.
Outside question like what inspired Dave & Golly, several questions
were asked. Who are the target audience for this project? Daniel Okosun
said “Dave
& Golly project is not only targeted on children but the family, every age
group is going to be captured through the stunning colours and mature
dialogue”.
What is the assurance that Dave & Golly is going to be
different from other animations we have already? Daniel Okosun said “#Ash7
went as far as thinking out of the box from the regular animation where you see
someone walking like a stick…we used different image sequences for the
presentation to look better than what it was before. The intention is not to
take lead in the Nigerian market, the intention is to become international”.

Animations like Shark Tale, Shrek, Frozen
and many others have created a standard we might think is nearly impossible to
meet up to. When asked if “Dave & Golly is close to such
production”, Victor Enoch said “We’re bringing in a lot of creative
individuals to make this happen, so it’s a gathered effort of creative people
who so far have done a great job in making Dave & Golly a
spectacular animation”
A press man from Radio Nigeria asked “Animations
have been accused of creating violence in the minds of children, what theme
does Dave & Golly incubate and also were the voices used that of a Black or
White” Victor Enoch said “Dave & Golly is coming from a different
angle compare to the regular animation you have out there, it focuses on
teaching children good morals. The project is actually voiced by fellow
Nigerians like Ajebo the comedian and also radio presenters who talk and
communicate same way we do”

these days is particular on nudity and strong language, when asked if “
Dave and Golly is going to have splashes of nudity and strong language for it
to attract the audience or market itself”, Victor Enoch replied “we
are cultured, we want something children can watch with their parents”.
Painting the picture of Dave & Golly in our minds, at some point one may assume the
costume for the characters to be Nigerian cultural outfit creating an image of “Black David and Goliath” but Victor
Enoch clarified the assumption by saying “The characters are going to be dressed same
way the hebrews dressed in that era because it’s an epic film but there are
some modern effects in scenes where characters use phones, laptops…we want
people to connect with the animation through the things they are used to”

The Dave
& Golly project has been on since last year, the project took as long
as six month to story, script and voice. The project’s budget should be going
to six figures.
A press lady from STV drew back the
attention of the title to be drawn from the Biblical story David and Goliath,
when asked if the project is based on Christendom and what the reactions from
other religions might be, Daniel Okosun replied “the story of Dave & Golly is
not necessarily a Christian story, it’s a historical story found in the Bible,
the major thing we are focusing on is;
someone who was not expected to achieve such a task, that is a seventeen
year old boy taking on a soldier who takes out an entire army”, Victor
Enoch added “it’s talking about little people doing great things, what we are
preaching is not religion, it’s just a motivating story that makes people do
great things despite their size”
We must have seen animations like
Disney’s Frozen which is a musical
animation, when asked if “Dave & Golly is a
musical animation or if the soundtracks were dubbed or freshly recorded?” Victor
Enoch said “everything on this animation is from the scratch; we have four songs
we wrote and produced so that people can relate with them even when they are
not watching the movie”.
I bet the world will want to see more
animations like Dave & Golly, “Are we looking at a series or a major
franchise”. Daniel Okosun said “we are looking at a feature length
animation; we intended certain characters in the movie will create a series”.
