I loved it when I learnt that God owns our
body and that He made us stewards over them. I thought that was remarkable. It
however follows that as good stewards, we ought to take utmost care of that
which has been committed to our trust.
Personal grooming is how we can achieve this; we ought to learn how to
take care of our appearance, hygiene and clothing. This is the sum total of “who
we are”. How one dresses is how they will be addressed.
Cleanliness they say is next to Godliness, I
can't say what the rationale behind this saying is, but I know beyond the
shadow of a doubt that God is clean, he made us clean bodies, and He'd want us
to keep it clean as well. Taking regular baths, brushing our teeth, flossing,
keeping our hair neat, washing and ironing our clothes...the list is endless
but all is aimed at enhancing self-image and making one look and feel
presentable at all times.
When one fails to maintain their body, there
may arise things that would lead to an encumbrance in the body's normal
function which will be detrimental to said individual. Therefore to avoid any such physical, mental
or psychological problems, it is advisable to follow the necessary steps to
ensure that the body is kept in perfect conditions.
A well groomed individual commands respect,
irrespective of who he is and where he's from. Good grooming gives a person leverage
to associate with equally respected people of any class. It boils down to
personality and carriage. It goes without saying that a well-dressed individual
carries himself with certain airs, good grooming breeds self-confidence and I
know that there are a few things as attractive as a good self-esteem.
Good grooming can be seen also in
communication, choice of words, vocabulary, diction, these things puts one in a
certain class and with it comes respect and admiration; I am a testimony to
this. These things are gotten from investments made in our "self" consciously or unconsciously. It is very essential
for the work we have been called into and therefore must be taken
seriously. I have made such investments,
and I reap its dividends each passing day. No doubt it takes a concerted effort
built over time, There's no doubt however that it is worth every energy spent
on it, the Lord expects us to do our jobs well as stewards, God forbid that we do not...
