GIVERS

Hello guys, Valentine is around the corner and many people are more focused on what they will receive rather than what they will give out.

Normally in this part of the world Nigeria, Africa where things could practically be misread and misunderstood which lead to misbehaviour among people, I observe that the female folks are more on the expectant side than on the giving side.

I can’t remember the last time a girl actually bought or got me something either on my birthday or mere valentine but they regularly ask me “what did you get for me” when I step out of the house to a nearby place howbeit valentine or their birthdays.

It’s disturbing how giving has been shifted to only one gender (male) yet little or few say something about it.

I feel both gender should be on the giving side either as friends or as lovers.

Here are some tips on how to be a giver;

1) Seek giving opportunities:

Wish people the great things you wish for yourself. While doing this, you begin to see areas where they lack and need help.

Giving isn’t only via materials; it can be an abstract substance like hugs, calls, texts, your presence, food for thoughts etc.

The more you do this, the more you feel your existence is fulfilling.

2) Create your own personality:

Don’t try to be like any other. Many people have lost themselves on the path of trying to be someone else. You might not be as rich others do not mean you don’t have a lot to offer.

You got more than what it takes for people to be attracted to you especially when your giving abilities starts working out for you.

3) Don’t beg/borrow:

Try as much as you can to live within your income. Extravagant life is the beginning of an arrogant debt. There are students I see with phones that can pay two-semester school fees. That’s unwise.

Don’t let social media and TV commercial pollute your mind with greed over substances even the models/actresses can’t afford.

4) Provide for yourself:

Learn to be your own harvester. The more you provide for yourself, the more you crown your head with happiness and confidence.

5) Don’t focus on what you’ll get in return:

Givers are selfless; the main aim of giving is creating happiness and fulfilment. If you focus on what you will get in return when you give, then your giving spirit will be paralysed.

Imagine if God was only concerned about what he will get from us when he sent Jesus to die for us, it means his heart will be bleeding in pain. He gave his son Jesus Christ cos he loves us and wants to save us from our own wrong.
