THE BEAUTY IN CONTINUITY by Marilynn Akpomera

Raising our heads high with little or no drive empowers us not to go dry because the hustle never dies. The facial expression never truly denotes the heart’s intention neither explains man’s destination. I’m marveled that even when interwoven with deep agony, we still don’t hesitate to hope strongly.

Desmond who just turned four (4) is seriously expecting his new game as promised by his daddy but in the process of waiting, he’s reminded by his mum that he is a man and must always be strong in the place of disappointment, really?

This child is still learning how to spell “man” and obliviously has no idea what it means to be one. The pre-man however wakes up every day and puts a smile on his face believing that his consistent continuity will prove his strength.

This precious angel Sheila that’s an extended beauty of her mum with the height of her dad at age thirteen is also reminded by mum that every “training” she gets is solely based on the motherhood experience or rather like we hear “motherhood is turn by turn”.  So even in the midst of pain, she encourages herself with the fact that the gain of tomorrow supersedes the cane of today.

The radiance we inhabit evolves in every sphere of our personality, never considering any hindrance, totally believing in our abundance because of God’s deliverance and as always bearing the name “Constance”.

This extension in age never softens things instead we’re more prepared for tougher encounters because that’s where the beauty in continuity lies.

Sheila now finally in the realm of motherhood is rushed to the hospital as a primigravida by her lovely husband and taken straight to the labour ward. After much struggle she’s told that her expectation for nine months couldn’t survive cos the lungs refused to pick up. Despite the pain, she encouraged herself with the gain of tomorrow.

Desmond done with school now in the job hunt department unfortunately gets shot in the back by some armed men who later discovered his identity was mistaken for another. But while lying on the hospital bed, he’s informed that his spinal cord was shattered and there’s no possibility of ever walking.
He remembers the voice of his mum “you’re a man and must always be strong in the place of disappointment”.

God has made us creatures that look disaster in the eyes and still see ourselves as great ministers cos those scars never hinder stars from beaming to its fullest capacity.
