The idea behind football
is working as a team. The match between Nigeria and Argentina showed a pure example
of what an “I” Factor can do to a team.
Majority Super Eagle players
are guilty of trying to show off their skills and end up shooting the ball off
the post when they got no the chance of scoring or tackling rough out of frustration. This will
not take the team any forward as been practiced over the years. Nigeria as a
football nation ought to be doing more than the current result in any arena
anytime any day. The name “Super Eagles”
is not just a title but a title earned to be kept and preserved not acting like
the opposite “Super Chickens”.
Initially I expect the
team to have different sets of players whom will be tested before going for a major
match like World cup. Imagine having like 5 sets of 11players who play against
themselves to prove who is really super then represent the country afterward. A
practical example can be drawn from the movie “Battle of the Year” where the
coach did not just bounce off the “so called best dancers” during the first
audition but he kicked every one that has pride and “I” factor off the team.
What we should be
looking at is not the ability to score but the ability to play as a team, identify one another as "We", evades pride in their lives at first before
entering the arena. In the match against Argentina, Nigeria had chances
of scoring but couldn’t because they didn’t pay attention to team spirit. Argentina
did more wonders (Ball possession 57%) because they worked as a team. In every team, everyone cannot
be a goal scorer, just like same way your eye can’t be your ear meaning if you
want a team to function correctly, Ninjas have to be separated from soldiers,
everyone has to know their limit, roles, and rules guiding the game. Football is
never a one man’s match. Super Eagles can do better, they should learn from
their predecessors because if they were to play with the previous opponents our
predecessors played with LOL, maybe we won’t have TV anymore.
Super Eagles are the
sole reason why I stopped watching football. The idea of promising the team
money if they win is not just a motivating factor; it is a blunder to sportsmanship.
Every sport man should be willing to win for his country regardless of grants
which the other way round "success attracts favour". We have good footballers
wasting in the streets; I expect Nigeria Football Federation to do better than
mere politics because our country’s pride, swag, respect and dignity is on the
line.
On this note, i wish every country success in their respective match and most especially Super Duper Eagles. (Make una no fall my hand o, i take God beg you)
