Whatsup
guys, let’s talk business while we anticipate Mobster In-laws Episode 7. Sometime
last year, I did a course “Strategies
for Personal Development” at Yali Network. There was a topic that caught my
attention “Networking to get ahead”.
I
clearly understood there are some limiting perceptions we often cuddle thereby
creating weak growth in our business, organization or goal implementation.
We meet people every at church gathering, parties, gym even market places. For you to be
the best in what you do, you need to surround yourself with people that
inspire, motivate and challenge you. Networking is your resource as tangible as
your technical skills.
For you to be a brilliant networker, here
are some brief networking skills;
1) Be open to meeting new people.
2) Listening to new idea.
3) Try meeting people outside
your skills.
4) Be authentic and true.
5) Be a good listener for common
goal and useful relationships.
6) Be punctual for appointments
and meetings.
7) Be proactive and be ready to
conduct research on company and people you want to connect with.
While and after spotting who you are
interested in working with, you must develop the network through the following.
A) Reach out to friends, family
members and alumni’s who may bring to your table confident contacts.
B) Be prepared with questions. Choose
questions that are relevant to you and that will help your network.
C) Begin conversation with your
target when you see them at conferences and meetings.
D) Talk about your common
interest, build your conversation from there and let them see how you can help them.
Note everyone wants to know what you
can offer.
E) Make connections through
social media such as linkedin, facebook and twitter.
F) Set up video calls and other
social media appointments.
G) In cases where you meet with
the person ask for a contact info and business card.
H) Reciprocate by being a
resource for those in your network.
However, you must nurture and sustain your
network for a profitable result. Here are some ways to sustain your network
I) Reach out to them when
something reminds you of them.
II) Let them know you care about
their needs basically rather than putting what they can do for you first.
III) Send occasional relevant
updates about you
IV) Reach out to them in advance
V) Send your resume and the
position and job description that you are applying
VI) Write them a thankful note
VII) Write on business card on
first meeting so you don’t forget how you me them
VIII) Follow up within
24-48hours
IX) If they refer you to someone
contact, let them know how useful it was.
Wrap up
Our phones
are loaded with contacts yet we only talk to few because we want to have
everyone’s attention. I recommend you go through your contact regularly to
filter those who aren’t adding value or in good communication with.
You
will always meet better people same time have better opportunities to meet
those you are drooling to capture their attention.
Let me
go edit my phone list…hola you guys later.
