As the year 2015 rolls up its sleeves in
fast motion for 2016 to slide in permanently, lets flashback to January 1st
2015. That moment when you said “I’m
going to quit procrastination” “I’m going to engage in positive activities” “I’m
going to read my Bible three times daily” “I would quit bad friends”… despite
the long list of “I will” and “I won’t”, did
you really achieve the New Year resolution, goals, and plans?
On Sunday the 27th of December
2015, I was privilege to be in the midst of awesome talented teens (Seed
Church) in Graceville Christian Center. The theme for that day was “Start Your Year Right” which is the
title of a life changing book written by my lovely Pastor Mr. Tunde Ayeni. The teens
were divided into seven groups and given one key point in the book to digest for
presentation by delegates.
Indeed I was stunned watching teens present
dynamite punch lines, scriptures with acute authority and poise. To my greatest
surprise, the winner was awarded with a cash prize followed by the second. Thanks
to Mr. Jasper, Mrs. Clementine Usman-Wamba and her colleagues for creating such
a brilliant book review.
The seven key points in the book are;
- Take inventory of the previous year
- Bury the memory of the past
- Name your year
- Set the goal for the year
- Renew your mind
- Sow a sacrificial seed
- Prayer
At the end of the presentation, the teens
were given a take home assignment which is draft in column things that helped them in
2015 and the things that hindered them from achieving their goals. Later on, I gave
a brief speech on goals and plans.
In my speech, I made it clear that there are
visions, goals and plans. Visions are the big dreams, the ones that seem impossible due to their gigantic
nature. Visions can include owning social
media companies that will make Facebook go to sleep, being the president of
Japan [Barack Obama defied the law of presidency], being a professional practitioner etc. Goals are aspirations that can be achieved within months and a
year. Goals include passing WAEC,
JAMB, gaining admission into the university, graduating with outstanding
grades, undergoing professional courses etc. while Plans are the current choices made by an individual towards
achieving his/her goals, leading to
a supernova vision. As teens, it’s
least expected for them to go to work and put food on the table, rather work on
themselves, developing healthy personal hygiene, build their talents, formulate
good communication skills, improve their confidence and relative formative
upgrades.
If there is one thing I’m anticipating is
being in their midst this coming Sunday, there is so much going on there, I urge
you to bring your teens one of this Sunday to witness fresh, juicy spirit
filled words. [Anticipate my personal
development workshop for teens next year]
Before we cross over to the New Year tomorrow,
let’s get something right. When we cross over to 2016, don’t wait till year end
before you turn new leaf, a new life can be gotten anytime/anyday, it doesn’t work
with the calendar, time or season. It’s a choice said to be reasoned, practiced
and achieved not just with your personal effort but God's inexhaustible effort.
