I remember coming across this theme “Grow your Business without Money” and I got more confused. Are you saying its possible make financial increase without expenditures? Surprisingly the answer is YES (in caps)

This can be derived from a formula called “Social Capital” which I find interesting to define as “the 21st-century version of trade by barter where you scratch the back of a targeted business or organisation, render products or services to be paid in return patronage, advertorial or referrals and other benefits”. (more explanation below and example)

The Event

This event “Grow your Business without Money” was hosted by “The Academy” on the 3rd of June 2017 at 805 Restaurant Wuse 2, Abuja.

The event was seasoned with spicy speakers like Emmanuel Otori (Market Advantage Consulting) Moshood Lawal (SMEDAN), Enobasi Odiagah (Founder of Selcah Events), Cindy Ogbonnaya (Mall for Africa) and Newton Paul (Meeee) who enlightened the audience from experience;

I) How to boost sells
II) Optimise the social media
III) Register their companies
IV) Source for loan
V) How to differentiate between collaboration and partnership
VI) How to grow their business without cash (social capital)

Social Capital Explained

Most times cash isn’t really passed across the counter in social capital. All you need do is find a missing item in your target, proffer the solution and get paid with certain values that will help boost your brand identity and increase your customers by 60%.

Social Capital Definition from Google

Social capital is an economic idea that refers to the connections between individuals and entities that can be economically valuable. Social networks that include people who trust and assist each other can be a powerful asset.
Social capital is a form of economic and cultural capital in which social networks are central, transactions are marked by reciprocity, trust, and cooperation, and market agents produce goods and services not mainly for themselves, but for a common good.
 Example of Social Capital
Say you own a restaurant; you can have your customers shoes shined after meals in return for giving the cobbler meals after work.

Say you are a barber; you can volunteer to be the official barber of a particular boutique in return for a discount on any stock you purchase.

Say you run a spa; you can afford to give free service to the manager or owner of any organisation or establishment in return for favours like free meal tickets, movie tickets for your “give away special”.

Wrap up
Traffic either online or offline is the core booster in business survival. We should be willing to go any length in making our business attractive and interesting.

Networking is the key ingredient that makes social capital viable and sustainable. Don’t be all our selfish cos that won’t help grow your business.

Remember, happy customers, happy you. Think creative and look for ways to make your customers happy. The more you appreciate them, the more they help you advertise your business via word of mouth or social media itself.
