Designing for the future: Trends we need to consider now

Art in my own word is a flexible unique style embedded in our actions. This permits us to craft our image nation (imagination) into reality. Either writing, speaking, fashion designing, interior decoration or graphic design, all thoughts emerge from one place “the abyss of creativity” an abstract endless crater that beholds inanimate life yet, spit resounding ideas into the minds of those who made themselves available.

Plainly speaking, the art of designing has upgraded over time. What used to be considered accurate before now is completely obsolete as we speak because our minds are currently stimulated with various adverts, brands, logos, colours and constructed psychological patterns we must follow consciously or subconsciously.

What is Graphic Design?

Google defines it as “the art or skill of combining text and pictures in advertisements, magazines, or books”. In order words, it’s a visual language or a visual representation of an idea that is used to convey a message to an audience.

Graphic Design happens to be the next real deal in the world of art, its part of our daily life. Brands have migrated from the "product focused" 1.0, "human focused" 2.0 and now its is " value focused" 3.0.

For a resounding effect to beat the competitive tides among brands, designers literally choose to think outside the box (tapping into the creative crater) over time to evoke domineering sensation through computer graphic software such as Corel Draw, Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator etc.

Once upon a time, graphic design was boring, it was merely one sided like “Mario 1999” which contrast today’s graphic design tools witnessed in Corel draw x7.

3D Graphics Design

In Corel Draw x7, to create some 3D graphics, you would have to use "Ctrl + Shift + Q" to convert an outline to an object; the object can be given depth with the Interactive fill tool. This allows you to create a light and dark contrast for an image to hold deeper meaning and a weighty feeling.

The smart fill tool is used to create an object from overlapping an area and apply a fill to that object. This way, you can apply multi-colours to a particular object with ease.

Infographics

Recently, BBC (Lagos Chapter) was seeking a Junior Designer, Infographics and UX. The job objective includes;

I) Tracking outstanding Infographics and UX work across various different screens, be they mobile, connected TV, tablet or desktop

II) Deliver maps, charts, information graphics and branding to support daily output

III) Contribute design expertise to project teams made up of journalists, product managers and developers.

IV) Communicate conceptual ideas and design decisions to project teams.

Inform

V) Ensure accurate data representation and accessible design solutions… etc

Lately, the need for Graphic designers, infographics and UX are on the rise since established business, company, organisations and SMEs (Small, Medium sized enterprises) are plunging into the new media and seeking echoing distinctiveness.

A Digital Marketer is advisable to have great knowledge of graphic design in order to manage, direct, edit or even create compelling Newsletters, websites, social media post, infographics etc. 

Logos

Logo creation will take a new turn in the future; it will be more abstract, colourful and meaningful. They will need viewers to pay deeper attention to understand the logos due to the details they behold.

All the pictures in this article are practice samples I designed myself using some tutorial videos and samples on Corel Draw. I've been into graphic design for about 9years now. As a digital marketer, I've made it compulsory to upgrade my graphic knowledge and skills.

I advise you attend a graphic design course today or use graphic design sites such as desygner.com or canva.com to improve your creative abilities. You can simply download tutorial videos from Youtube or visit sites that have graphic samples or templates.

Either way, just know that designing for the future has started already and graphic designers are a hot cake. Cook yourself on time and watch yourself top the design chain.
