CREATIVITY: THE HOW

Hello guys, yea long time mehn, even me I miss writing and posting more than anything. The blackout is the sole reason why I can’t do jack, this stuff just kills “Creativity”. You’re pregnant to deliver something and then there is no power to pour out your creativity into the right channel. Ideas are everywhere but the epileptic power supply just mal everyone’s dreams especially the ones that are ICT and production inclined.

While writing this article, the power went off and my laptop battery is sick (it goes off immediately the power goes out…more like a television yea) there was a punchline I wrote earlier which isn’t here anymore… I can’t remember it because my write-ups flow from my veins. I have to save this document every 5 seconds cause the power can just go off anytime and the freaking idiots just keep bringing bill for what we are not using…..i so mad right now. The other day they nearly corrupt a game I have gone so far by blacking out my game console while it was saving….and PlayStation company doesn’t put in mind Nigerian’s blackout experience.

Mehn mehn mehn…what am I even talking about today before I lose it. Let’s talk on Creativity, that weird thing many people lack while others think they possess. The truth is man is a creative being, fashioned and installed with great ideas.

Creativity simply “is the use of imagination or original ideas to create something; inventiveness firms are keen to encourage creativity”. So it’s very simple, but many people just find it difficult to think and evoke ideas, they confuse it with the saying “building castles in the air”…which I believe is happening already.

I was watching an extremely creative movie that sparked one million and five billion ideas “Syrup”. Here is the synopsis…

SYRUP is an edgy comedy that exposes the cut-throat world of advertising through the eyes of a young prodigy chasing fame, fortune, and the woman of his dreams. Fresh out of school with a degree in marketing, Scat will do anything to prove that he has what it takes to swim with the rich and wildly successful. Scat comes up with a brilliant new product that gives new meaning to the old saying "sex sells." He is sure it will send him right to the top...if only he can convince his boss, the beautiful and mysterious "6," that it's an idea worth millions. Betrayed by his best friend "Sneaky Pete," Scat stumbles through an industry riddled with deception. As he begins to realize that fame and fortune have cost him his morality, he must rediscover his true self behind the elaborate image he has created or risk losing the love of his life. In a world where the average person sees over eight hundred ads in a single day, SYRUP takes a biting look at the insidious-and often ridiculous-side of advertising. Crackling with romance and humor, this razor-sharp satire leaves you guessing and laughing until the end.

There was a part of the movie where Six told Scat to come up with an idea and he was completely blank for days. He lectured the viewers in his blank state…

“Here is how to spot the difference between “Art” and “Marketing”. Marketing starts with an unfilled need in the market place and figures out how to plug it. Art on the other hand starts with the idea, figuring out how to sell it comes later, if at all. But art makes better stuff but a lot of time there is no market for it. Marketing makes more money but lots of time, the idea sucks…cause you can’t force ideas to turn up when you need them…they just do or they don’t”

Imagine your boss calling you on the phone and tells you to come up with something creative based on your niche for your workplace in the next 30 minute? How will you go about that?

Here are some helpful tips that has worked out for me….i am always on point with these.

Pilling up ideas before you need them: Imagination “Image Nation”…how well have you build yours? Imagination is a powerful tool that can’t be toyed with. It is man’s super powers to think and watch his thought come to reality if he so wish. Many breakthrough inventions we see today were imagined and some were dreams dreamt while sleeping.

Creating and storing ideas relating to your field in your memory box or jolter is very important. It’s just like creating a Microsoft document and saving it for later usage…most times ideas come in handy when you least expect their usage. In another occasion, one idea can give birth to another which makes the first idea the mother idea as the case may be.

Sometimes, people wonder how I come up with such meticulous article, unknown that I store up ideas upon ideas on my notepad, back of books, jolters, and so on all to reserve them and guess what? It turns out to be a bombshell when they pass through my distiller.

Free your mind and be extremely open: Creativity comes in several forms. Most times when you are searching for a particular idea and your mind is troubled, it pushes creativity far away. Majority ideas were gotten when the mind was free and at rest. Most times when I do chores, that’s when idea flows, that’s why I do chores almost now and then. Doing chores is a meditation section for me; it clears my mind therefore, opening the windows for ideas.

A friend of mine called me up lately quite nervous asking me on the topic she could discuss on her first show on air. And I told her “tips on how to sustain a conversation” which was actually my first topic I presented on NTA back in 20013 (for those who saw it, you know nah…we killed it)

Tour: Visiting places is also another way of getting creativity. Your current atmosphere might blur certain meanings which are very vital to what you are looking for. Some people just need to cross the boarders for them to realize that what they think is a mirage is nonfiction.

Meet creative people and have intelligent conversation: “Who you follow determines what flows”…This is an awesome quote I came across during the valentine service I attended at Enthronement Assembly. For real iron sharpens iron…using a sharp machete to cut wood or grass dulls its sharpness. You need to have smart conversation that encourages your creativity, boost your reasoning and lifestyle practices and also give you a platform to learn new stuff.

Browse the net and consume creative materials: The world is a global village at this point, meaning that we are exposed to millions of culture, knowledge, innovations, creativity and other positive soul food. How well have you utilized it? Some people use the net to browse all manner of baseless and meaningless stuff…and I figured out its people who don’t know how to use the net positively that have lots of data.

Throw away those crazy home videos that limit your thinking rather than expanding it. Movies that you can predict the end from the beginning are examples of polluted movies also songs that leave you with nothing to ponder or think of. Some songs have mad ass beats and weak lyrics unlike others that have poetic lyrics and accurate upgrading rhymes that recharge your creativity. Most classical songs and instrumentals are good for brain development; due to their multi-instrumental nature played by talented artists have ways of injecting creativity into your souls especially when you use your mind to fill in the empty spaces. (my typing is so poor cos I haven’t been writing for days now).

I got loads of videos that keeps me going and recharged when I feel my creativity is low…find yours, it will work for you a lot. When your soul is nourished, it creates.

Digest games: People still don’t get the idea behind game (Giving Accurate Mental Elevation) games are art mixed with technology. Solving puzzles, anticipating, discerning, prioritizing your gameplay and all sorts just makes you think faster. The more brain activity you got the more you likely to retain things and grab things real quick.

Evaluate/discern/create: This is where a lot of people get it all wrong. Everyday take out time and ask yourself a question with a problem and seek for the solution deep within yourself. Come up with a solution you feel only you can proffer…there are many ways to get to one particular solutions…understand the problem first then seek for possible outcomes, reasons why the problem emerge and best ways to tackle it without hassle.

I tell myself "i am Newton, i have to do new things" You too can.

Every day, we come across millions of creative stimulant, it could be adverts, rock music, the way a drunken man walks, or the bird that flies across our roof, the kids we talk to everyday, the buses we board every day, the gutter we cross daily, or the food we eat. All these are massive creative ingredient that can ignite one million ideas.

A vending machine doesn’t have to smash your belly before you get the idea…ignite your creativity.
