Why Social Media Isn't Enough

Hey guys, let’s get straight to the real deal why you aren’t getting enough out of your social media accounts. Sincerely speaking, these days’ people put in so much online and put in less offline.

I was with a client last month and she was desperate about reaching out to thousands of people through social media over a proposed event she has coming up in the last quarter of the year. The nature of her event needs massive engagement but unfortunately, she was chasing awareness. (I know you are like “isn’t that what's up?” Keep reading)

I gave her series of offline engaging activities that can build concrete recognition and aid her online presence but it seemed to be less convincing because she has been brainwashed with the crowd culture “the more likes the more engagement”. That day I made up my mind it’s not everyone amma offer my services.

Don’t let the height deceive you, Mr Engagement is actually older than Mr Awareness.

From the image above you can see that out of 15k followers, 5 people liked a post which isn’t up to ¼ of the entire followers.

This explains why we get to be aware of an event and at the end of the day after seeing thousands of likes; we only get to see 50 people turn up for the event if not less. I can understand some people who like are not in the same location where the event took place but quality engaging campaigns will fetch a good number of audience for the event.

Don’t put your full trust on Social Media, before it emerged, life moved on, products sold, brands made it really BIG, companies expanded and will continue to expand because they are tightening basic loose ends tighter than ever and enhancing engagement.

If you are in Nigeria, you will agree with me Online isnt enough.

If you have a saloon, for example, the major thing you should be doing is converting your offline customer to online customer. Get their email address, phone numbers (if needed), Facebook IDs and get them to like your page so you can share/tag them to reasonable deals alongside send them newsletters when needed.

It doesn’t end there, how about launching out to look out for contracts, i.e people you can teach in form of a workshop, or businesses and offices you can offer quality styling service in return for special favours.

How enlightening, educating and informing is your social media account? Is it just for show offs and all about you?

Many people get carried away with social media and switch off quality creative offline campaigns that would generate massive leads.

It’s what goes on offline that sustain your online presence. Marry your offline and online strategy to have multiplication effect.

Weird facts about Social Media

I) There is more passive audience than active audience.
II) Go for active audience only, try to filter nuisance. Remember you need a solid audience base not spammers and toxic followers.
III) Social media success doesn’t come overnight.
IV) Choose two to three major social media platforms that suit your business, you don’t have to be everywhere. Be where you can control.
V) Few engaging followers are way better than massive followers with weak engagement
VI) Don’t buy fake likes because it makes you more of a fool than boosting your reputation.

Wrap up
I’m not saying you shouldn’t run online advert campaigns, cmon you ought to but what you need is a proper tactics and strategy to keep your customers engaged, connected and responsive.

Go for the right audience, post reasonable and suitable content to promote your digital footprint and lastly, don’t expect overnight result.
