Morality is the core ingredient of cultural transmission. On the 4th of March 2016, the Culture and Tourism Community Development Service Group hosted a ground shaking seminar at the Agbado Town Hall Ogun State.
Two schools were invited along side
community settlers. The schools present were Presobel Height Model School led
by its cutting edge Proprietor Mr. Bello and Christ Progressive Model School
led by a vanguard Staff Mr. Taiwo.
The
opening prayer was officiated by Mr Bello, the introduction of the CDS group
was anchored by Clement Ikechuwu. A brief cultural display was presented for
the entertainment of the invited audience while the main speech was delivered
by the president Newton Paul.
Agbado is under Ifo Local Government Ogun
State, Nigeria. It has an area of 521 km2 and a population of 524,
837 at the 2006 census and right now it has doubled its population due to a
breach in Cultural norms and practices. It’s clear that premarital sex is not
absolutely embraced in the Yoruba culture yet we see many teenage girls with
babies or pregnancy.
The
objective for the seminar was;
· *Educate the community on the need for sex
education in conjunction with cultural transmission
· *Enhance closure amongst parents and children
· *The dangers of premarital sex
Unarguable,
everyone in the society belongs to a family; family is first place of
socialization, a place where we share common culture, beliefs, shelter, food
and also a place where we learn morals, good/bad behavior, religion,
discipline, preference and countless others thereby molding an individual into
a broken or perfect fit.
Parents
so far are the foundation of societal mishap today due to their nonchalant
attitude towards satisfying the emotional and psychological needs of their
children. The case of rape and molestation among family members have been on
steady rise however the gap between parents and children boost these tribulation
causing fragile hearts to be broken as well as the society.
The
solutions to this cultural insanity are as follows;
· *Parents should involve their children in regular
devotions.
· * Repeating advice and information to children in
order for their minds to absorb it.
· *Leading by example.
· *Bringing children close when they are wrong and always
remain calm no matter the situation. Flaring up might ruin the chances of a
child opening up to a parent.
The closing
prayer was taken by Akharume Eduwa Grace followed by refreshment and group
photograph. It was indeed a beautiful seminar and our esteemed guest learnt a
lot as they were encouraged to go home and find their root for those who are
ignorant about their culture.
